You'll have to head to The Junction now to get your doughnut fix
Newcastle's love for the doughnut is undeniable, not just any doughnut that is, a Doughheads doughnut. Whether it's the fluffy cake-like texture or the
gooey, sticky icing on top, the humble little Doughhead doughnut has been giving us all a whole lot of pleasure since Anna and the team started baking
and selling at the local markets a few years ago.
Perhaps seen as a little daggy or even a little cheap the doughnut has in the past floundered against its mortal enemy, the cute-as-pie cupcake. Yet that all changed thanks to Doughheads. Call her crazy, or more appropriately entrepreneurial, Anna Farthing saw the need to inject some cool back into the doughnut.
The concept of Doughheads was 12 months in the making with Anna starting out on the weekend market trail. The original plan was to run Doughheads as a
bit of a side project, the priorities quickly changed as word of Anna's delicious doughnuts spread fast. Long line ups and glowing reviews gave Anna
the confidence not only to expand but set up a shop front in the heart of the Hunter St Mall.
Newcastle's love for the round ring has gone troppo forcing Anna to open a super impressive new Doughheads headquarters at The Junction. The new digs are pretty schmick and come complete with an I-spy looking glass baking area so you can see all the behind-the-scenes doughnut action.
With flavours like cookies and cream, butter popcorn, maple bacon and the delicious salted caramel bullseye; the question of how many, not which one is more appropriate. With a steady stream of loyal Doughheads filtering through the doors glass doors the dipping master, Rich out the back has his work cut out for him.
What's most to love about Doughheads is the passion that Anna and her team exude. Everything is made from scratch, even the milkshake flavourings, and each doughnut hand dipped, there's no novelties or surprises here only consistent quality flavours that just keep getting better and better.
