Judging by the large gathering of tradies, post-workout gym-bods and commuters at Door 34 on any given day at 6am, you instantly know that this place
must do great coffee!
Owned and run by husband and wife team, Tony and Carolyn this hip and grungy café brings some much needed café cred to Cardiff, with awesome coffee, chilled
out vibes and a fresh, tasty menu. Door 34 is hidden just off Main Road in Kelton Street, making it convenient for a quick coffee pit-stop en route
to Sydney and also allows for al fresco seating in the sun.
Pouring Silverskin Coffee Roasters, their coffee is smooth, consistent and bold, they also have a new Single Origin to try each week. Silverskin is
a local roaster, on Macquarie Rd Cardiff you might have picked up some of their beans before from the Olive Tree, Hunter & Gather or Newcastle
Farmers Markets. Tony and Carolyn chose to go with Silverskin as they had been using their beans at home for years, so when they opened Door 34 there
was no question which beans they would use.
Since opening in January 2015, Door 34 has grown its cult following amongst locals for great coffee.
“We’re locals. We come from Cardiff…..and if we’re going to do it, we’ll do it here,” Carolyn explained.
But it’s not just about the coffee, Door 34 have a select Breakfast and Lunch menu featuring healthy, fresh and seasonal options, along with daily specials,
which today is a pulled pork sourdough roll. Everything on the menu is cooked on site, with the banana bread being the only exception. The best way
to describe the menu is simple yet tasty and convenient.
Carolyn describes the vibe at Door 34 as “pretty eclectic and pretty easy going”, they seem to know most regulars by name. Which gives this suburban
café a real homely, community feel – its not all hustle and bustle at Door 34 it’s about taking time out of a busy day to say hello, grab a coffee
and catch up with Carolyn and the crew.
They officially open at 6.15am on weekdays but Tony is usually at the café long before opening time. He has created a loyal following of regulars who have
come to expect Tony to be pouring before 6am, it could even be Door 34's busiest time of day.
So if you’re after a decent caffeine hit in Cardiff or after a fresh and simple Lunch or Brekkie then try Door 34. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
