Brought to you by the guys from Glitch Coffee Roasters, Distribution Coffee is bringing some seriously good tasting coffee to Newcastle’s Steel River (which is also known as Mayfield West).
If you’ve ever had a conversation with either Hal or Jamie, or both, about coffee you’ll know exactly what I mean when I say that these guys are really into their coffee, like I mean, really into it. Their knowledge, passion and thirst to learn more is almost as addictive as the bean itself.
Glitch HQ started out in the very industrial Steel River and on roasting days the guys were always on the hunt for a coffee, so they decided to open one close to the office, one that would feed their caffeine needs, and that’s how Distribution Coffee began.
Located on Channel Road within the industrial estate Glitch have also teamed up with the all chick team of Floozy Coffee Roasters, on our visit we caught up with Kmac (one half of the Floozy Roasting team) who you’ll find behind the counter most days.
“It’s a really industrial area which I kind of like, people from town who know us, work out here and they appreciate the style of coffee we make. Not everyone wants to know about origins and where the beans are from so we don’t force it on people, but [we're] happy to share if someone’s interested.
“Glitch does the main blend and then we rotate our origins for espresso and filter and we also have lots of retail. There are a few places out this way that you can buy coffee from for home but not many so we’re finding that there are a lot of people zipping in and getting their home supplies.
“There is a takeaway across the street so we wanted to complement what they do, we just want to be friends with everyone, so we decided food wise that we would do salads, toasties, croissants and quiches, Jesse makes everything fresh in the morning. We also do fresh juices but the main focus is the coffee.
“We are only open Monday – Friday, it’s the best hospo job ever!”
