Discovers recycled and upcycled shopping in Tighes Hill
Are you a bit of a frustrated artist? Like to make and create or enjoy the idea of recycling and upcycling things, making those tired old pieces look fresh again. Then you are going to love Crab Apple Vintage. Located in the very eclectic suburb of Tighes Hill in a beautiful old warehouse with Little Wren Flowers, owner Martina Long has been for much of her life one of those creative types who has a knack for breathing life into vintage furniture pieces.
Martina's hobby has turned into a way of life, gathering a posse of followers online before opening her Islington shop front, with her beautiful collection of genuine vintage & industrial pieces and recycled items.
Together with her partner, and a local tradesman, the trio use their tools of the trade to breathe new life into once neglected pieces.
Martina also likes to share her tricks of the trade offering the very popular chalk paint workshops to those interested in rejuvenating their very own vintage piece. Crab Apple is only one of six stores in Australia that stock the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint brand which are used in the workshops. Start with the Chalk Paint™ 101 where you can learn techniques such as a smooth modern finish, two colour distressing (shabby chic style) and a rustic farm house look. If you master the 101 progress onto the Chalk Paint™ 102 workshop which covers more advanced and gorgeous techniques like Gilding, Stencilling, Decoupage and the Crackled Varnish look. There is also a demonstration of colour waxing included in this workshop.
Wandering through Crab Apple you'll also discover an eclectic range of lockers & lights, things for the garden along with bits and pieces for every part of your home, office, photo-shoot or even wedding, which Martina hires out, allowing you to create that perfect effect.
If your looking for something a bit unique and one-off be sure to put Crab Apple Vintage on your list of things to do this weekend.
