Carrington is one of those suburbs that you have no real reason to drive through. Other than to perhaps visit some friends or family, what other reason would there be to cross Throsby Creek? But if you like good food, a relaxing drink, or just enjoy wandering around a suburb so chilled even the birds slow down when flying over, then you need to call in on Carrington. And while you’re there put Carrington Place at the top of your list of foodie venues to visit.

Formerly known as the Oriental Hotel, a complete overhaul was undertaken by owner Scott Webster. In 2009 the project was mission complete with the hotel reopening as so much more than a pub with food. Today, Carrington Place smartly contains a beautifully laid out café & wine bar area, private dining space, 80 seat restaurant and traditional guest-house style accommodation that’s not only affordable but a hop-skip-and-jump away from the Newcastle CBD.

Scott not only restored life back into the old dame but infused a not so traditional pub meal flavour into its menu.

A reflection of Scott’s more than 30 years of experience working, owning and consulting to some of the best restaurants in the world.

Scott rightly deserves an entire article all to himself with the highlights of his resume including the Savoy Hotel in London, Switzerland’s Grand Hotel, the prestigious Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles and many more throughout Europe, Asia, the US and Canada. Scott’s reputation within the industry now sees him taking on more of a consulting role for establishments such as Starwood Hotels, the historic GPO Building in Sydney – No.1 Martin Place, and more recently, the much acclaimed “Osia” Bar & Restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

Scott’s unique style is reflected clearly throughout the menu. Combine this with his emphasis on sourcing only the finest of local produce, then carefully prepared and cooked in the special stone hearth oven, ensures a unique flavour and dining experience.

Carrington Place is definitely worth crossing the bridge for on any given day, if not for the food but for a leisurely lunchtime beer or after work wine.
