Eclectic shopping on Darby Street, Cooks Hill
I always feel like a kid in a lolly shop when I step inside Blackbird Corner
With all their brightly coloured little knick-knacks, magazines, cards, t-shirts and accessories I just don't know what to look at first! And what was I here for again? I've quickly forgotten as my eye is caught by something else I want to buy.
Blackbird Corner is somewhat of an institution in Darby Street, opening back in 2006 when husband and wife, Nici and Sean returned from living in Melbourne for 6 years. Through family connections at Cooks Hill Books, a shop was available and Sean and Nici knew that it was too good an opportunity to pass up, so they set about creating a shop, stocking it with their own creations.
Blackbird Corner is all about stocking handmade, locally made brands which you can't find anywhere else in Newcastle. Nici and Sean only stock products that they absolutely love.
You'll find anything and everything here from screen printed t-shirts (courtesy of Sean), handmade greeting cards, short run magazines, handmade fashion accessories, the list goes on. Blackbird Corner is well worth a wander next time you're in Darby Street.
