Considering we’re situated right by the ocean you would expect nothing less than top-notch quality Seafood around town. Well, Newcastle sure did deliver when it comes to great Seafood, but there’s plenty of restaurants that are that little bit further afield that are bringing their A-game.
We’ve tasted, we’ve tested, and we’ve tried all the top seafood restaurants around town and compiled a list for you, to tick off one seafood platter at a time.
Crusoe’s on the Lake
Situated inside the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club at Belmont, Crusoe’s on the Lake has taken full advantage of their waterside venue. With the massive deck space built for long lunching or afternoon sessions with seafood dishes ready to be shared amongst family and friends.
Where: Ada St, Belmont
Tucked away in Wests New Lambton, Lure has a reputation for deliciously fresh and insanely instagrammable seafood. The dishes are generous, fresh and tasty; with impeccable service to match.
Where: 88 Hobart Rd, New Lambton
The long-time favourite in Newcastle East is known for its fresh and sustainable seafood menu. Serving up sustainably caught fish, sourced predominately from local fisherman, Scotties also changes up their fish menu weekly depending on what’s in season, plentiful and running at the time.

Scratchley’s on The Wharf
Another favourite amongst locals and travellers alike is the well-known dining spot sitting pretty over Newcastle Harbour. The light seafood menu offerings are paired beautifully with their floor to ceiling glass windows with uninterrupted views of our harbour.

The beautiful harbourside fit-out of Six Degrees seamlessly blends its contemporary furnishings with the relaxed seaside vibe that’s lapping at its door. Whilst the menu has vast offerings, the Seafood features heavily and is our pick of the bunch.

With the owner holding over 15 years of seafood experience under his belt, you can dine at The Kingfish knowing that their Seafood is going to be top notch. Serving up a simplistic and well-balanced menu, The Kingfish consists of the freshest quality seafood with inspired flavours of the Mediterranean.

Little Beach Boathouse
With the seafood restaurant upstairs and casual waterfront bar downstairs, this place is the perfect afternoon venue. Since opening in 2013, the restaurant has become well-known for its super fresh and locally caught seafood menu, family friendly atmosphere and those amazing views.

Rick Stein at Bannisters
Rick Stein; need I say more? The menu here at Bannisters is predominately seafood-focussed which is matched perfectly with those stunning coastal views; ensuring a feast for all the senses.

The Deck Café Restaurant & Bar
Calling Soldier’s Point home, and overlooking the marina, The Deck Café Restaurant & Bar has got to have one of the most stunning waterside views. These guys are known for their fresh oysters!

The Wild Herring
Taking out the title of Best Seafood Restaurant - Regional NSW The Wild Herring, The Anchorage, promises diners a destination dining experience like no other. Positioned right on the water's edge The Wild Herring sources only the best, sustainable and locally caught seafood from Port Stephens.
Executive Chef Michael Jenkins, a long-time local whose eye for quality and eagerness to support the local seafood industry translates into a menu that
offers diversity and creativity.

The Point Restaurant
Just a short drive from Nelson Bay, and sitting on top of The Deck Café Restaurant & Bar, The Point Restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience with breathtaking views of Soldiers Point waterways. The fresh seafood menu paired with a beverage from their impressive wine list, makes this the perfect spot to enjoy a long lunch.

Whether you’re after breakfast, lunch or dinner, there is something happening on the menu for everyone. From the ultra-casual, think kiosk style Beer Battered Fish, to the more formal but still relaxed dine-in experience with the Cold Seafood Platter to share.

The restaurant and bar is located right on the picturesque Umina Beach. These guys specialise in cocktail and casual eats with the menu featuring plenty of steak, burgers and lots and lots of seafood!

The Box on the Water
The seafood here is the absolutely hero on the menu and we would highly recommend ordering the whole fried snapper to share or the Atlantic salmon.

Woy Woy Fisherman’s Wharf
Known for its takeaway fish and chip business, Woy Woy Fisherman’s Wharf also has a premium restaurant that wraps around the waterside is just as famous. This award-winning venue is renowned for its quality and sustainably-sourced seafood prepared by some of the best heads in the food business.

The Stunned Mullet
With the ultimate coastal location, the menu at The Stunned Mullet takes on one hell of a seafood flavour. Beautiful presentation, exquisite flavours and stunning views; what more can we say other than that The Stunned Mullet is worth the drive to Port Macquarie.
