A fun, artistic and unique street food eatery arrives in the West End
A sit-in street vibe approach to the fast food experienceSee our handpicked guides to Newcastle
There is no need to wait until the next market to get your bao fix because Bao Brothers have recently moved into their very own permanent space along Hunter Street! And I am not sure what is better, the food or the décor!
Since starting the Bao Brothers food truck just over a year and a half ago, Nathan and Dave admit that it was a natural progression to open the Urban Eatery.
With the combination of a good brand, art and hip hop the urban experience of Bao Brothers stays true to the market street vibe; with an inside laneway, canned drinks, encouragement to eat with your hands and a Yum Cha style ordering system or takeaway options.
With a different menu to the truck, the Urban Eatery offers 5 different baos, as well as snacks, sides, desserts and sodas. I had the house ginger and kaffir lime soda with a fried chicken, gouchgang caramel, pickled shallot, cucumber kimchi and kewpie bao. I am not sure what half of those ingredients are but it was bloody delicious!
The consistency of Bao Brothers, their fresh produce and their unique point of difference on their approach to fast food has seen them grow from strength to strength. And with the space free upstairs, possible plans to expand could be on the horizon.
For all the market lovers out there, don’t stress, you'll still find the Bao Brother’s truck out and about on the weekends so keep an eye out on their insty page for where they're at!
