Baked Uprising

Freshly baked breads, pastries, tarts and brioche in Maryville

Who would have thought that little old Newcastle would one day have it's very own super cool bakery in the burbs? Baked Uprising has that industrial warehouse feel to it that you would expect to find walking around Sydney's Surry Hill's, not the sleepy little suburb of Maryville.

From the sleek polished concrete flooring, minimalist decor, High Tea With Mrs Woo aprons and bespoke hand painted signage, every detail has been carefully considered.

Whilst the decor may be sleek and sophisticated, there's no pretentiousness here. Baked Uprising retains that relaxed, casual Newcastle feel, which is a reflection of owner Alice and her super friendly team of bakers, baristas and behind the scene staff.

Then there are of course the baked goods. Each morning Alice and her team create the most delicious range of cakes, pastries, tarts, brioche and breads.

All handmade and baked fresh from the onsite kitchen, with real butter and the freshest of ingredients, those sticky sweet meringues are just to die for. Behind the bar it's a hive of activity as the freshly baked breads and tarts quickly roll out of the ovens and even quicker out the front door.

The Baked Uprising story began in Alice's kitchen where she baked muffins wholesaling them to cafes and restaurants. Alice decided to step it up a notch and took a stall at the Newcastle Farmers Markets and it's here where her legion of fans began to gather. Opening at the end of December Alice already has people lined up out the door, so don't be surprised if you have to be a little patient to get a seat.

You may never have driven along Downie Street Maryville, you may not even know where Maryville is, well if you don't now's the perfect time to discover it and pick yourself up a Seven Seed coffee and some of Alice's delicious baked goods.
