2018 Hunter Valley Cellar Door of the Year

A visit to Broke is never complete without dropping in at Margan.

Margan is the life and love of husband and wife team Andrew and Lisa Margan, together with their children Ollie, Alessa and James. In 2016, Margen celebrated 20 years of award-winning winemaking at their Broke Fordwich Estate in the Hunter Valley.

At the 2018 Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards, Margan took out 'Cellar Door of the Year' and it’s not hard to see why.

So how did all this begin? Andrew is the son of just passed Australian food and wine pioneer, Frank Margan. spent his younger years split between his father’s and Hunter Valley icon Murray Tyrrell’s vineyards, instilling a passion for both the Hunter Valley and winemaking. Two decades ago, armed with nothing but a purchase order to bankroll the costs of his first wines, Andrew decided to have a go himself and make wine under his own name.

Today, Andrew is chief winemaker and viticulturist, responsible for 30,000 cases, while Lisa is Restaurateur, developing the estate-grown projects (lambs, bees, garden and smallgoods) and manages the Margan Restaurant and Cellar Door.
