Morpeth is one of those towns that from time to time you just need to reconnect with. The quaint little village, that’s barely 40 minutes drive from Newcastle, has consistently offered one-of-a-kind shopping experiences, boutique accommodation and that beautiful country hospitality.
There is now another reason to visit Morpeth with Boydell's Cellar Door and Restaurant opening its doors.
Tucked along Green St, Boydell’s is the newest venture of Daniel and Jane Maroulis, the incredibly hard-working couple who we first met back in 2018. It was at Daniel and Jane's stunning East Gresford property that we were introduced to them along with their luxury eco safari tent and stunning Boydell's boutique vineyard.
Whilst East Gresford is only just up the road Daniel and Jane have now made accessing their award-winning wines a whole lot easier launching their very own cellar door and restaurant right in the heart of Morpeth.
Entering via Green St Boydell's cabin-esque style cellar door space literally has you taking a step back to admire not only the craftsmanship of the old slab hut building but the incredible transformation that has obviously taken place.
On meeting Daniel and Jane they are quick to add that the reno has been a lot of hard work, but undoubtedly well worth the effort. The space perfectly merges the modernity of Jane and Daniel’s approach to winemaking with the history of the building and the Boydell’s name, which is synonymous to the area with Charles Boydell first settling Dan and Jane’s East Gresford property back in 1826.
Dining at Boydell’s offers a relaxed yet sophisticated experience with the interiors flowing seamlessly from cellar door to dining space. The menu is equally sophisticated with Daniel explaining that the focus has very much been placed on working with local suppliers as much as possible, and with the menu changing seasonally no one from seafood to dairy to plant and produce hasn't been considered.
Whether you drop in for a glass of red, white, or Sparkling Verdelho (our wine choice) or decide to linger a little longer you are sure to be impressed by this incredible wine and food experience.
Chef Sheldon Black brings his worldly experience to the menu and shares Jane & Daniel's passion for sourcing locally. The menu will showcase produce where possible within a 50km radius of the restaurant, ensuring the menu offers a true sense of place while supporting the local community.
