Art, music, markets, performance art, and workshops are coming to High Street

Mark your calendars for a creative event that will make High Street Central Maitland a hub of artistic expression.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 10.00am to 2.00pm High Street between Grant Street and Ken Tubman Drive will transform into a precinct of creative expression, featuring a pop up art market, live music and performance art, workshops and live painting demonstrations. The day is being delivered by Maitland City Council, with event partner The Wall Station.

Art Marketplace

The Art Marketplace takes place around the intersection of Lee Street and High Street, hosting a diverse range of 10 local artists. Check out this vibrant gallery, and we’re sure you’ll be leaving home with a new favourite piece. Featuring stalls from:

Art in Motion

Witness art in motion as street artists KEOB and Goya bring their visions to life through live painting demonstrations. These live painting sessions showcase incredible talent and offer an intimate peek into the world of street art. Stop by to chat about the creation process or grab a coffee and relax with live music as their artworks unfold over the day.

Get Hands On

For those feeling inspired and eager to unleash their own creativity, there will be two interactive workshops on the day facilitated by the zesty Newcastle based artist, Squidless Studios. Suitable for all ages, participants can get hands on painting their own terracotta trinket trays, drawing inspiration from her unique style.

Artists in Residency

Explore a trail of artists who are taking up residency alongside six High Street businesses. Grab some lunch and watch one of the talented artist pairings who will draw inspiration from the local surroundings throughout the day for your entertainment which include; Natalia Sherring, Ben Kenning, Ashley Campbell, Jo Shand, Lily Belle, Marguerite Tierney

Maitland City Council will also be offering a free $5 voucher for event attendees to redeem at participating businesses, so be sure to book a table for lunch at one of these High Street eateries.

Street Gallery

If you miss out on the activation day, pick a night to head out for dinner using your free voucher, and enjoy the street scape by night. Some of the precinct's most notable buildings, including the iconic Mansfield House will have their windows illuminated in a window gallery. The window lighting display will run from 25 August to 4 September and will highlight the architectural beauty of the area.

Your High Street

With thanks to the NSW Government’s ‘Your High Street’ Program, High Street between Grant Street and Ken Tubman Drive received a few new additions including a 10m Parklet, two public dining areas, beautiful street trees, renewed pedestrian footpaths and street art.
