Up a dirt road, away from the well-trodden vineyards of the Hunter Valley you’ll find one of the most breathtaking cellar doors in the region, Tallavera Grove at Mount View.

Well worth the 15 minute drive from Pokolbin, Tallavera Grove exudes French Provincial vibes as soon as you arrive. Walking across the courtyard and into the cellar door you’ll be greeted by the friendly team, headed up by cellar door manager Luke.

With 180 degree panoramic views across the valley of vineyards below, this cellar door has one of the best views in the Hunter Valley.

Onto the wine, Tallavera Grove is owned by the Davis family who also own vineyards in Orange (Carillion) and Wrattonbully (Stonefields). Across these three boutique vineyards they produce a range of varieties, including Chardonnay, Semillon, Verdelho, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Here at Mount View in the valley below there are Semillon, Shiraz, Verdelho and Chardonnay grapes growing.

Their new Lovable Rogue Series grown at Tallavera include ‘Skin contact Vermentino’, ‘Lees stirred Fiano’ and ‘Foot stomped Sagrantino’. They are ballsy varieties well suited to the Mount View microclimate, head winemaker Andrew Ling explained. The red variety, Sagrantino is the last variety to be picked each season, it is lovingly handpicked and foot stomped by all the staff. The result is a medium bodied red that is perfect with red meat or tomato-based pasta.

Tallavera Grove has been awarded the 5 Star Winery rating in the 2018 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion for the fifth year in a row. It is the ideal destination to taste Hunter Valley wines and experience local hospitality. There are cheese platters available to order featuring cured meats, local cheeses and chocolates.

Right next door is the renowned Bistro Molines. This restaurant has a very European feel to it with Robert Molines creating sophisticated yet rustic French Provincial dishes for his always evolving menu. Robert has long been on the list of highly awarded restaurants earning a Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Chefs Hat in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Tallavera Grove is a must stop for any Hunter Valley adventure.
