Opening their doors at the historic Dalwood Estate on the banks of the picturesque Hunter River earlier this year, Mr Busby’s is a Brazilian-inspired, family-friendly restaurant offering the perfect setting for a leisurely lunch or breakfast.
All about slow food – stop, relax, take in the world-famous vistas and savour time with family and friends over slow-cooked, intentional food. With everything made from scratch in the restaurant kitchen using seasonal, local and quality ingredients that are carefully selected by head chef Rafael Tonon.
Born in Brazil with Italian lineage, Rafael was destined to bring the rich culinary experience of this heritage to the rest of the world through his own take on the incredible cuisine of his childhood.
Combining his wealth of experience with his innate take on seasonal produce and flavour, Rafael’s mission at Mr Busby’s is recreating the joy of breaking bread with loved ones in the picturesque setting of Dalwood Estate.
“I grew up in a family of restaurateurs and chefs,” Rafael said.
“My earliest memories begin with the sounds and smells of being in the kitchen with my Nonna and working alongside her as a boy making traditional pasta
“I really wanted to bring the laughter and happiness of my childhood – which was always centred around food – to Mr Busby’s.”
Taking its cue from its sister restaurant, MEET in Newcastle, Mr Busby’s menu is designed to make the taste buds sing, with home-made sauces, rubs and salsa bringing incredible produce to life and creating a menu that diners want to keep coming back to.
The meat is slow-cooked over aromatic wood and charcoal on the kitchen’s bespoke barbecue rotisserie, resulting in uniquely tender, succulent produce.
At the helm of the culinary-led venues are three mates; Brazilians-turned-Novocastrians Luciano Cruz and Daniel Pires and local Mitchell Steel, it’s gathered a dedicated following of gourmets keen to indulge their sense in the traditional Brazilian fare.
Together, the trio has expanded the MEET Brazilian barbecue concept in Newcastle to include the MEET Food Truck event catering, to Mr Busby’s; their latest venture.
Open for breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
