Pokolbin tasting room full of olive oil, vinegars & table olives
A visit to the Hunter Valley is usually all about wine, but did you realise that the Hunter Valley is also known for its delicious olives. With sub-tropical, Mediterranean style growing conditions the Hunter Valley lends itself to growing not only grapes but olives also.
Hunter Valley Olive Co was established in 2006 and focuses on producing high quality extra virgin olive oils, vinegars, and condiments.
Their produce is sourced from a variety of different growers from the Hunter Valley who all own and run small scale olive groves. The Hunter Valley Olive Association has around 30 growers, they are a core group of growers who are trying to find a market for their small olive groves. This brand has given some farmers a market for their produce, throughout the Newcastle region.
Where can you buy Hunter Valley Olive Co produce? It is stocked in lots of local green grocers, butchers, gourmet delis, and IGAs.
At The Ben Ean Winery in Pokolbin you’ll find the Hunter Valley Olive Co. tasting room, alongside Hunter Belle Cheese, Baume Restaurant and the Ben Ean Cellar Door. Once the spiritual home of Lindemans, Ben Ean is now a popular tourist stop with shops, gelato, a restaurant and wine tasting (of course).
At the Pokolbin Tasting Room you can taste a variety of flavoured olive oils including garlic and herb, lemon and pepper, chilli and spice, lime and ginger, and their premium mild and fruity EVOO. As well as their caramelised and barrel aged balsamic vinegars, olive tapenade, dukkah and caramelised onion and chilli jam (which is delicious on a hamburger). They have 100% Australian table olives too!
