Discover lobster rolls & Semillon at Mount Pleasant this Spring
The October long weekend will see Hunter Valley institution Mount Pleasant launch its first spring activation; a lobster roll and Semillon pop-up on the grounds. Available each Saturday and Sunday throughout spring in the Laneway, guests can enjoy a lobster roll and a glass (or bottle) of Mount Pleasant’s famous Semillon.
Lovedale and Semillon is one of the best wine-land combinations. Planted by Maurice O’Shea in 1946, the Lovedale site is a true viticultural marvel. Having been considered completely inhospitable for growing vines, O’Shea recognised this section of sandy ancient sea-bed for its true potential. Today Lovedale produces some of the most expressive and elegant Semillon in the world.
In line with their latest whites release, the Semillon on offer in the Laneway includes the 2017 Cellar Release Elizabeth Semillon, 2022 Lovedale Semillon, and 2022 Estate Grown Semillon.
Of the lobster and Semillon pairing, chief winemaker Adrian Sparks said, “Because of its acidity, our Semillon is the perfect match for the sweet flesh of shellfish and seafood, especially lobster. We wanted to introduce it as a special offering to really showcase the versatility of our wine and the broad range of food they can be paired with.”
Curated by Justin North in collaboration with head chef Kyle Whitbourne, the kitchen team has sourced local Eastern Rock Lobster and chosen an artisan milk bun to create the ultimate lobster roll to pair with and showcase Mount Pleasant’s Semillon offerings and will be available for $19 (wine additional).
North said, “We wanted to create the perfect spring pairing for this limited-time offer. Taking into account the balance of flavours required between food and wine, we chose to use creamy yuzu mayonnaise and semi-sweet bun to help to offset the dry Semillon.”
