A Hunter Valley venue made for every kind of visit

There’s a fresh energy flowing through The Valley Brewhouse, and it all starts with new ownership.

Since taking over in March 2024, Campbell Rogers, alongside business partner Josh Gamgee, has spent the past two years bringing the venue to the forefront of the Hunter Valley region.

"When we first took over, the venue had great bones, but it lacked soul and purpose."

"We wanted to develop an iconic family-focussed, multi-faceted venue that appealed not only to the millions of tourists who visit the Hunter Valley every year, but the local communities and families who call Cessnock and the Hunter Valley home."

With a new team led by Executive Chef Jeffrey Umbaugh and a strengthened events and marketing crew, the mission has been clear: lift every part of the experience.

The goal? A brewpub that puts community and families first - a rare find in the Hunter Valley.

A multi-purpose Hunter Valley destination

Today, The Valley Brewhouse is far more than just a place to have a beer. It’s a multi-purpose venue designed to cater to every kind of visit, whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink or settling in for the day.

Guests can enjoy bistro-style dining, explore the award-winning on-site brewery, or drop by the cellar door, open seven days a week, for a tasting experience.

Brewery tours and guided tastings offer a hands-on look at the craft behind every pour, while the expansive outdoor spaces provide plenty of room for families and groups to relax.

For those planning a special occasion, the venue also offers versatile function spaces, including the standout Kilnhaus, perfect for weddings, conferences, corporate events, or birthdays.

“We’re proud of the recognition we’ve received - our Kilnhaus was ranked #2 in The Australian Wedding Industry Awards 2026, and our beers took Gold at the 2025 Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards for our draught and hazy pale ale. It’s a testament to the hard work of the whole team,” says Campbell.

It’s approachable, flexible, and built for everything from casual catch-ups to full Hunter Valley experiences.

Inside the brewpub: core favourites and monthly drops

At the heart of the venue is The Brewhouse – an on-site brewery with a solid core range complemented by rotating limited releases that ensure there’s always something new to try.

“Of the 31 taps in venue, at least 20 are allocated to beers brewed on site, which keeps the focus on our core range and monthly specials. Our bistro always highlights what’s brewed here in-house – it’s what makes the Valley Brewhouse experience unique," says Campbell.

On tap, you’ll find staples like Pacific Ale, Pale Ale, Draught, and Hazy Pale, while the broader lineup includes everything from Pilsner and Cerveza to IPA and California Common.

For those chasing something different, limited releases like the Sichuan Saison, Oat Cream IPA, and a recent standout Irish Stout offer something new to discover.

“Every month we love to shake things up – last month it was our Irish Stout, and our ‘Beer of the Month’ feature keeps regulars coming back. We’ve got a special Easter-inspired brew already on the horizon, and we can’t wait to share it," Campbell says.

Tasting experiences range from four-beer paddles to guided sessions and immersive brewery tours, while gin tastings are also available through a collaboration with a local distillery.

The Menu: where the venue comes to life

The Smokehouse has been transformed under Executive Chef Jeff, serving hearty plates of brisket, pulled beef, and succulent steaks, alongside classic pub favourites and seasonal creations designed to keep the menu fresh and exciting.

"In the kitchen, Jeff and the team are constantly reworking the menu. A favourite is our Brewhouse Smoke Platter, stacked with brisket, pulled beef, steaks, and more – it’s all about creating something to share," Campbell says.

Don’t miss their elevated classics like burgers, parmies, garlic prawns, and Angus rump, offering the perfect balance of comfort and quality for lingering meals and group dining done right.
