An event fit for a King returns to Yellow Billy Restaurant
If you love dining out, or more specifically seeking out dining experiences that take you beyond the regular, then the Kings Table in the Hunter Valley is one to add to your list.
Created by Executive Chef Sam Alexander and Head Chef Darren Price together with Yellow Billy Sommelier Pat Hester, Kings Table is all about getting interactive amongst Yellow Billy’s spectacular grounds, the produce, Sam and Darren's fiery cooking skills and Pat’s finely selected wine menu.
Following the success of last year's King's Tables events, the team are happy to announce the return of the first of 3 seasonal events in 2023. Coming up is Darren's King Table on Thursday 18th May.
For this King's Table event the menu will be a selection of dishes created by Darren himself, with the help of the YB crew in the kitchen.
Starting at 6pm you will be treated to a dining & drinking feast that will take in Yellow Billy's beautiful property and surroundings. Starting with a meet and greet plus a quick chat, canapes and a drink in the courtyard before moving onto the garden bed for an interactive snack (think picking or harvesting your own vegetable/herbs/flowers) with a beverage pairing.
Sitting adjacent to the garden beds is the fire pit, and it’s here where Sam and Pat’s vision and passion becomes abundantly clear. The unassuming tin shed houses a fiery furnace of which Tomahawks hang over, lamb shoulders steam away in the keg style hangi and ocean trout smoke above the fire on wooden planks. It's hear you'll hear from Sam and more about their cooking style as the protein pieces cook away for later serving that day.
From the firepit it's time to move into the beautiful Yellow Billy Restaurant for small plates, mains/sides, dessert & cheese all matched perfectly with wine/beverages from Sommelier Patrick Hester.

Throughout the day there is an abundance of everything, including the carefully curated wine list sourced by Pat, who has stretched every wine muscle to bring guests a refreshing wine pairing experience, one of the highlights from our visit last year being Pyramid Valley’s ‘Orange’ Pinot Gris Blend from North Canterbury, NZ.
As the wine flows effortlessly, you begin to think it’s almost impossible to take on any more, that is until the Afterthoughts arrive. Yellow Billy’s Smoked Pineapple Splice flavours were a highlight, equally impressive was the presentation, slide in your spoon to explore the tangy top layer and smooth sorbet underbelly.
