Icky Sticky Patisserie

Twisted Beer Week

Following two years of canceled events, The Bitter & Twisted Boutique Beer Festival has re-emerged this year into Twisted Beer Week to ensure all beer lovers can get their craft beer fix. The concept will become a part of the regular line up of events of the Bitter & Twisted program when it returns in 2023. Held across a variety of venues throughout Maitland punters get the opportunity to get involved in everything from tap takeovers, craft beer specials, dining offers, and a whole lot more.

Maitland Regional Art Gallery

Every visit to Maitland should include a stop at the MRAG. Featuring a constant rotation of award-winning exhibitions, the summer of 2021/22 is bringing together another strong lineup of artists with some of the highlights including; UNPREPARABLE which is a very personal, raw and challenging response to the bushfire crisis by Fiona Lee.

The Archibald Prize celebrates 100 years as Australia’s oldest and most loved portraiture prize and the MRAG is excited to be hosting the Prize in Maitland from January 22 – March 6 2022, and touring the MRAG in early 2022 will be Skywhales: Every Heart Sings by Patricia Piccinini. A monumental sculpture in the form of a hot-air balloon and a new companion piece to Skywhale and will be floating across the skies of Maitland.

Get Outdoorsy

If you’re wanting to take a break from all the coffees, cocktails, and craft beers, Maitland has loads of attractions for those wanting to discover something a little different. Pick yourself up a paddle, or a fishing line and head to the Hunter River for some beautiful nature experiences. If walking is more your thing take a wander around the Walka Recreation and Wildlife Reserve, or for those with wheels take a ride along the Levee Riverbank. If you have little ones in tow there are loads of green spaces to let them run whether it's the beautiful park space at Morpeth Common or the fully fenced in Maitland Park Playground.

Maitland Gaol

Maitland Repertory Theatre

For more than 50 years the 160 year old High Street theatre has been hosting the Maitland Repertory Theatre, a community theatre group whose sole purpose is to stage plays for the entertainment of audiences. Coming to the theatre in January is 84 Charing Cross Road, the story of a New York script-reader who applies for the job reviewing Literature for a bookstore in London, which begins their twenty year relationship.
