Celebrate Aboriginal culture at this free, day-long event

This event has now passed. Stay tuned for updates on next year's 5 Lands Walk.

Experience a physical, spiritual, and cultural journey along 10km of stunning coastline at this year's 5 Lands Walk, a collaboration between the Aboriginal Peoples and the broader communities of Darkinjung Country on the Central Coast.

Happening on Saturday June 22, the 5 Lands Walk is a chance to experience Aboriginal culture and art as people from all walks of life come together to connect with each other and with Country.

Beginning with an opening ceremony the night prior, the date of the event is significant, as it's the Saturday closest to the winter solstice. This is when the whales, a significant totem of the Darkinjung people, are migrating north. Make sure you keep an eye out for tell-tale whale spurts as you admire the views.

The walk connects five coastal villages – starting at MacMasters Beach and passing through Copacabana, Avoca Beach, and North Avoca to finish at Terrigal – with community festivals at each village along the way.

Throughout the 10km, you'll walk along beaches, headlands, bush tracks and back-roads, taking in the coastline as you go. You don't have to complete the entire walk either – you can join or leave the route at any point you choose, or even take the free shuttle bus between each stop.

Along the way, there's live music, art exhibitions, sculptural installations, and more, so you'll have plenty of chances to catch your breath.

It's recommended you allow the whole day to get through the entire 10km – this gives you plenty of time to enjoy the walk, stop whenever you please, and take in all the happenings.

The aim of the 5 Lands Walk is connect people to one another and to Darkinjung Country – no one is excluded, and family, friends, and visitors can celebrate the region's deep Aboriginal history. It's a walk towards a more inclusive future on the Central Coast and beyond.

If you're keen on attending the 5 Lands Walk, make sure you register via the website, and get ready for a wonderful day out by the water.
