Killcare and Hardys Bay on the NSW Central Coast are the small coastal villages that make you feel like you could be anywhere in the world – yet they're only a 90 minute drive whether you're coming from Newcastle or Sydney. Nestled in and around the Bouddi National Park, there's lots of natural goodness to explore, and plenty of great spots to eat when you need to refuel.

Eat

Hardy’s Bistro

Nestled at the bottom of the entrance to Hardys Bay, Hardy’s Bistro has become a haven for locals and visitors alike since opening its doors in 2014. This is a great cafe for a casual breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or just duck in for a coffee. Hardy's Bistro is directly opposite the stunning and sparkling bay, and on a sunny day, sun pours into this heritage building overlooking the wharf. Definitely worth a drop in after a strenuous walk around Bouddi National Park.

The Fat Goose

This courtyard cafe is a top spot for a laidback breakfast or lunch. The menu is fresh, seasonal, and full of flavour. In the cabinet you’ll find gourmet pies, quiches and baguettes, along with house-made cakes, pastries and slices. Coffee is a passion at The Fat Goose and they serve up expertly brewed Mecca House Blend. Most tables are dog friendly with plenty of free treats and water bowls to go around.

The View

After tramping through Bouddi National Park, there’s nothing better than heading down to The View for a wood-fired pizza. We weren’t kidding when we gushed about the scenery at Hardys Bay – these guys actually named their restaurant after it. Enjoy a great meal at the restaurant looking out over the water or opt for a takeaway and have it brought over to you while you dangle your feet in the bay. Now that’s service!

The Wild Flower Bar & Dining

If you’re looking for a fine dining experience on the Bouddi Peninsula, or in fact the entire Central Coast, you need to book a table at The Wild Flower Bar & Dining at Bells at Killcare. This place has spectacular views and its manicured gardens are a pleasure to stroll through on your way to a drink and a silver service dinner. The Wild Flower Bar & Dining has built up some great credentials in the fine-dining food scene, with a menu all about simplicity and freshness, inspired by the produce grown and harvested in the restaurant’s very own vegetable garden.

Things to do

Bouddi National Park and Bouddi Coastal Walk

Bouddi National Park is home to countless attractions, including one of Australia’s first marine protected areas, significant Aboriginal sites, wildlife and wildflowers, and even an old paddle steamer wreck. During the cooler months, keep your camera handy as you spot humpback whales migrating between May and September. Lookouts like Box Head and Gerrin Point are great vantage points for this beautiful sight.

The Bouddi Coastal Walk is an 8km walk stretching from Putty Beach to MacMasters Beach, the longest walk in the national park. There's so many stunning views, pristine beaches, and cultural heritage to be admired along the way. Do the whole shebang or choose a smaller section to walk and bring a picnic to enjoy.

Head to the beach

Keen for a swim? Make your way to one of the many picturesque beaches and bays in the region. Try Killcare Beach, Putty Beach, Lobster Beach, Pretty Beach, and Wagstaffe. Killcare Beach is patrolled during the warmer months and also has a kiosk, making it great for families.

Get out on the water

With plenty of calm waters to enjoy in the area, why not get out and explore? Try Boat, Bike & Paddle Hire Central Coast for any sort of fun on the water or on two wheels. No boat licence is required for any of its vessels, including the BBQ pontoons! These guys also have tinnies for fishing the peninsula, as well as kayaks, paddle boards, and push bikes, so there’s something for everyone.
