All your dessert dreams have come true at Wyong
The Marshmallow Co. at Wyong has been a labour of love for local couple Breah Mayer and Joel Twyman since 2017. It all started around a bonfire at home, when Breah made an oversupply of marshmallows. When Joel took them into his office, they sold like hotcakes and orders were put in. Between this, market stalls from Sydney to Newcastle and food shows to where they are now at Wyong, The Marshmallow Co. was born.
Situated at Wyong’s iconic Chapman Building, the dessert bar sits at rear of the building in the grounds, inside what was once the bakehouse to the main foodstore building on Alison Road back in the late 1800s. A new fence has just been installed around the grounds, which will no doubt be a hit for people with kids coming into the warmer months!
Speaking of kids, this place is going to take you straight back to your childhood and imagining your own Willy Wonka experience, which is exactly how Joel describes Breah’s creative mind.
“Breah is the creative brains trust and the driving force behind the business. Everything comes from her. Sometimes we’ll be given a deadline for a wholesale order and I’ll come in to see how she’s going with it and she’s come up with an entirely original and awesome new marshmallow creation. Her imagination is limitless.
“Whenever we make things though, we want it to be accessible and affordable, especially for families, because the kids just love to see our creations,” said Joel.
Friday and Saturday nights are the dessert bar’s busiest trading time with lots of families and groups coming by to sample the sweets after dinner and drinks elsewhere.
“We often get customers coming here from Sirone’s Pizza By The Metre around the corner. The guys there don’t have a big restaurant space, so lots of people will bring their pizza here to eat on a picnic blanket on the grass under our fairy lights and then pop in to see us when they’re ready for dessert, it’s great,” said Joel.
If you’re going to check out The Marshmallow Co., you HAVE to try Cookie Skillet or the Donut Fries, both of which feature the famous marshmallow fluff (marshmallow which hasn’t set yet).
The venue has recently undergone a transformative renovation with a new preppy and cute interior, complete with cool neon signage and a larger commercial kitchen to keep up with their booming online orders. The new look dessert bar opened in late June for the first time since COVID-19 hit.
“COVID was actually our saving grace funnily enough. Our online shop orders have been really busy with everyone staying at home, but still wanting that special dessert bar experience.”
If you want to have a “mallow experience” at home, check out their s’more kits online, which give you everything you need in one parcel with instructions. The kits are a great way to keep your guests entertained and sated after dinner.
If you’re keen to get back out on the town to sample some sweets, check out what’s happening on their insta as they often have live music guests jamming out for your pleasure while you enjoy your treat on the grass under the fairy lights. This place has SPRING 2020 stamped on it!
