The Glass Onion Society is a stronghold of the trendy Long Jetty strip dotted with cafes, record stores, vintage threads, hairdressers, tattooists and boutique shopping. Dominating the central intersection on The Entrance Road, you can’t miss its retro vintage vibe with plenty of outdoor seating (dog-friendly!) and a bustling atmosphere of good coffee, pumping tunes, and quality food.
With cheeky dish names like The Big Balls Benny, Frisky Brisket or Sexy Mexi Bowl, their all day breakfast and creative lunch menu will not disappoint. The Onion has every taste covered from carnivore brekkies, sweet pancake stacks, herbivore bowls and salads, smoothie bowls, a range of burgers to boot, and a kids menu for the little grommets. There are plenty of vegan and GF options and the sweet/savoury light snacks menu is just as drool-worthy as the mains. The Toasted Traveller is a revolving menu item allowing the chefs to mix it up every week to create the ultimate toasted sandwich.
The walls are adorned with local art which will make you feel right at home among the leafy plants and comfy vintage velvet couches. Owners Kelly and Adrian fitted out the space with all recycled or donated furniture, creating an eclectic yet welcoming vibe matched only by the enthusiasm of the staff. Not just a cafe, their small shop sells coffee beans, second-hand books, records, Pottery for the Planet mugs, Zephyr label clothing, and other local artisanal wares supporting the culture of the Central Coast. Sustainability is important to Kelly and Adrian with the cafe known for supporting environmental causes, reducing all single-use plastics, using Who Gives A Crap eco-TP, and encouraging the use of keep cups.
