Latino flavours and cheeky times at Point Frederick
If you’re looking for something a little fun, colourful and incredibly good tasting, then you'll need to add Frederico’s on the Central Coast to your list of must-do dining experiences.
Sitting smack on Gosford’s Brisbane Waters Frederico’s is the work of co-owners Monique Keogh and Natasha Nicholson, who have once again created an incredible drinking, dining, and social space. You may be familiar with the ladies' work already from their fab café & restaurant at Ettalong called The Box on the Water.
Opening in June 2019, Monique and Natasha said that the opening of Frederico’s was all a bit of being in the right place at the right time, with Monique explaining,
“It was one of those opportunistic things, a friend of ours was running the restaurant and wanted to downsize what they were doing. We were at a stage in our lives when we were wanting to do something else so we thought let’s just do it. Gosford also has some exciting things going on, it's definitely an up and coming area, and we wanted to be a part of that.”
And create something else they most definitely have,
Latin America is the theme of Frederico’s from start to end, starting with the cocktail menu and Margaritas naturally being a favourite choice.
“Originally we wanted to do Mexican, but not Tex Mex, it's often the case that the success of Mexican restaurants is around the lively, loud, fun atmosphere they create, and we just thought this area could benefit from something like that, however we also wanted to have a bit of creative license with the menu so that’s why we went down the Latin America theme.”
“Our number one priority was to do something fun and colourful. We’re a bar/restaurant, somewhere you can come and have a drink at and stay on for a light meal in the bar or under the marquee, or head upstairs if you're wanting more of a restaurant experience.”
The menu is an onslaught of colour, flavor, and amazing Latin American favourites like the Ceviche - the Citrus cured raw fish, preserved lime, garlic, onion, tomato, chilli, coriander, guacamole is literally bursting with fresh flavours. As is the Paella Con Mariscos Y Pollo, which is Chef Fred’s South American recipe of paella with saffron rice, chorizo, chicken, prawns & mussels, tomato, spices.
Whilst this year has been a little disruptive the ladies have said that things are going better than expected,
“So far Frederico’s has been really well received, opening in June last year we were just starting to get some good traction before Covid hit, but as soon as we reopened in June 2020 we came back guns blazing in what would ordinarily be our quiet time of year. I think people are just happy to be able to get out.”
The all-day menu has been a popular addition and when the warmer months arrive it’s easy to picture long lunches and lazy afternoons under the marquee and sitting in the laneway, Latino tunes playing in the background helping to get your groove on.
And the name Frederico's, we had to ask and Monique explained with a smile,
"We called it Frederico’s because it’s official postcode is Point Frederick, but we have had quite a lot of fun with that, like who is Frederico… he’s a fun guy (laughs)."
