Steel & Anchor

Beautifully designed homewares, men's gifts and accessories

Darby St is now home to a beautiful men's store that boasts the best of homewares, gifts, and accessories.

Walked down Darby St recently? You might have noticed a brand spanking new shopfront sitting pretty between Blackbird Corner and Ramjet. It’s the child of retail connoisseur Troy Pezely.

Steel & Anchor opened up their doors in early May and has brought with them a whole new world for men’s wear and in particular men’s giftware. So, ladies if you’ve got a hard-to-buy-for-man, you might want to listen in too!

Owner Troy has had an extensive career in retail, most recently finishing up an 11-year long stint managing Country Road at David Jones Kotara. Now it was time for Troy to create his own space.

“I went to Sea Maiden + Villa Lane one day for a coffee. I sat down and thought, yep, this is what I want to do; minus the coffee,” Troy told me.

After leaving Country Road at the end of 2018, the concept for Steel & Anchor was born and has been in the works since February this year.

The location of the store, as some of you, might remember used to be Amazing Noodle, but upon entering you’ll be thinking there’s no way this was a noodle shop!

Troy has transformed the space into the ultimate man cave with all the best things a man could want.

Whether it be leather goods from All The Kings Men, shaving products from Triumph and Disaster, and even Paul Hewitt watches; you name it, they’ve got it.

The name itself is really about bringing it back to Newcastle,

“It pays tribute to the history of our home town, Newcastle. Newcastle has a proud steel-making history and is a busy port city. It's a great place to live.”

With a passion for great product design that weaves in a mixture of aesthetics, function, quality and sustainability, you know you’ll be walking out with a product made to last. Troy’s so excited about bringing the store to life, shoppers will be able to enjoy a range of beautifully designed lifestyle products that will constantly evolve.

Next time you’re on Darby St, head on in for browse; you won’t be disappointed.
