Texas style BBQ food truck in Islington
If you have ever visited Texas, chances are you have also tried their beef brisket…and loved it! So, I was so excited when I heard there was a Texas-style BBQ food truck right here in Newcastle.
The owners, Robert and Randi, converted an old Salvation Army bus into a food truck, however, after a few breakdowns the food truck is now permanently set up in Islington with a smaller trailer used to move around for markets and catering.
Originally from Texas, Randi has grown up around the Texas brisket explaining it was almost a rite of passage in her family to cook beef brisket. And while living in Texas with her Australian husband (who grew up on cattle farm), he developed a passion for it as well.
The smoked brisket can be cooked for up to 15 hours and is mouth-watering, tender and oh so delicious! Also, on the Smokin Hot N Saucy menu is pork, chicken, sausage, ribs and burnt ends on a Friday night if you get in early!
Add some fries, onion rings, mac n cheese and breakfast tacos on the last Sunday of each month and YUM get me there ASAP!
Robert also competes in competitions throughout Newcastle, as well as in Texas, and now this year they have created their own, Smoke in Broke. A two-day festival of BBQ, beer, wine, music, good vibes, and a bonfire!
