Driving along Soldiers Point Road, it's tricky to spot the Cheeky Dog. Tucked beneath Port Stephens boutique hotel, Bannisters the discreet entrance offers no hint of what lies inside. That is a playground of quality eats, craft beer and cocktails, live music and easy-going coastal vibes. 

The expansive industrial-style space blends a palette of natural recycled materials, soaring steel trussed roofs, exposed timber ceilings, and offers guests a multitude of dining and drinking options to relax and live music on Sundays offering the perfect chill out vibes.

Take a seat at the high tables in front of the big screen to catch all the sports action, for something a little slower paced the Cheeky Dog restaurant offers lounge-style seating that's ideal for those long lunches.  

If outdoors is more your scene the Cheeky Dog beer garden brings together the ocean breeze and natural surrounds that Port Stephens is so loved for.   

The food is, of course, delicious with Rick Stein at Bannisters Head Chef, Mitch Turner crafting a Mediterranean inspired menu that you easily share or enjoy all to yourself if that's your preference.

“We’ve designed a menu to share, with fresh dough pizzas and antipasti being the hero dishes, but we’ve still got the pub favourites; like a schnitty and a cheeseburger. I like to think of family dinners, bringing everyone together for a shared experience, and there really is something for everybody on the menu”, says Mitch.

"Our pizza dough is made locally in Newcastle, by a gent called Declan who’s spent time in Italy and London perfecting his craft. It’s delicious, and we’re so excited to be using it, the crust is everything. ‘Build up a spread of antipasti including burrata, parma ham, anchovies in extra virgin olive oil, and Guindilla peppers. Pizza toppings cater to all, with vegetarian, meat and seafood options to choose from. The Cheeky Dog cheeseburger will no doubt be a staple, as will the range of pizzas, for sure.”
